Dr. Adele Quigley-McBride is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Wilson Center for Science and Justice at Duke University Law School. A recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Science and Innovation Award, she completed her Ph.D. in Psychology at Iowa State University under the supervision of Dr. Gary Wells.
Her research focuses on memory errors and eyewitness identification procedures:
- The Repeated-Suspect Effect: Her award-winning doctoral dissertation demonstrated that exposing an eyewitness to an innocent suspect in an initial test heavily contaminates future lineups, significantly increasing the likelihood of a false identification due to familiarity and perceived pressure.
- Lineup Analysis: A recent study of hers published in a top peer-reviewed journal analyzed real-world police recordings, demonstrating a close link between eyewitness confidence, decision speed, and identification accuracy.
Dr. Quigley-McBride’s specialized expertise in forensic comparisons and eyewitness memory contamination makes her insights highly relevant to the current case.
